I had to call up Smart Tag so that they can send me new lil' strips to go on the window of my car since I just switched up. Not only did they not have my new address, they didn't have my address from two years ago either... their info was almost 4 years old. Old address, old phone numbers, old credit card number, old everything. Customer service was not pleased.
HER: "Account number Sir?"
ME: "No idea, that on the lil' box?"
HER: "No sir, that's on your monthly statement."
ME: "You do that?"
HER: "What?"
ME: "Monthly statements, you do that?"
It was made more complicated by the fact that I can't remember what my address or phone number was in Reston years ago... She told me they had multiple entries for my name... had to go by driver license number. She was a little sketched out to say the least. I was amused.
The call ended with: "Well... that was a lot of updating wasn't it? Anything ELSE sir?"
Anyone annoyed with me just posting stupid links yet?
I've been waiting for those for 8 or 9 years. That guy is going to make shitloads of money.
this is genius... you can't really describe what makes something "soda out of your nose" funny... it just is....
Oh, yeah... and I'm bored today.
Too bad that the only people interested would be geeks... and they'd most likely just host it off their own box or a friend's box for free.
I could tunnel vnc over ssh to my house and solve my "no aim at work" problem... then again... I could just set up a proxy at home and tunnel aim itself over ssh.... hrm... lazy
Wow... I usually count on Wired News to have articles that are technically literate. This is a sad day.
"But the speed claims for the browser -- which comes with 120 search engines, all the major media players, a DVD player, and an HTML and WAP editor built in -- have drawn criticism because no one has yet been able to clock it."
Who builds search engines, media players, dvd players, etc INTO a browser? Oh, it conforms to a standard so that it can open the correct controls and plugins! Wow, big shit. It's like saying: "My web browser comes with millions of web pages built in... and they update randomly too.... sorry for the pop-ups."
This just pisses me off:
"The browser is based on the version of Microsoft Internet Explorer that third-party developers use. But rather than using Visual Basic, Osmani used an older language called Borland C++, which meant he also had to use some Microsoft tools to translate from one language to another."
In other words: "In stead of using stick to fight the dragon, he used an Apache assault helocopter with sidewinder missiles."
Morons.
Oh, here's the actual story (which has already been MUCH debated on /.)
Ok, a *sort of* understand getting a blue screen of death on the new microsoft smart phones simply because it's bleeding edge and isn't mass marketed except in sections of Europe and they're our guinee pigs anyway. What I refuse to accept is microsoft starting a very, VERY bad trend: patching console games. If a console game crashes... it should be pulled from the selves - unacceptable.
I'd put links but I can't find them and I'm not really interested in racking my brain to figure out where I read those two tidbits.
Brilliant idea.
So I gave the girl a ring and asked her if she wanted to get hitched. She agreed. I was worried.
Anyone wanna come to Vegas and see us get married by Elvis? Just kidding... ok, not really, but there are no actual plans yet.
On a related note: Buying a LOT of roses in the supermarket is the funniest thing ever. You get that look of "Ahhh" followed almost instantly by a frown and then a pissed off look. It's the "You got her flowers! What a good man! ... Wait... I don't get flowers... my man doesn't love me!" and it's amusing.
Quote: "Don't go and get gay on us now, you hear?"
Leave without pay... not fantastic. Turns out that you CAN go in the hole for leave here at my new job... just NOT at the end of the year. Two days off after Christmas and New Year's Eve... ouch. That was my wallet you just kicked.
Upside? Turns out I haven't blown my vacation for the year.
I bought a ps2 last night.... been wanting one for a while. While computers are far superior overall for gaming, there are certain game genre's to which a console system is king.
Hopefully this won't be too big of a money hole for me...
Well... everyone one else has one so why the hell not? I've been trying to think of something to throw up on this damn site anyway.
I have so many ideas - well intentioned and mischievous. Unfortunately, I'm quite content with being lazy and unproductive. Maybe I'll throw one up here every once and a while and someone more proactive can use it... or maybe I'll never update this thing at all... we shall see...
P.S. In case you hadn't noticed: I absolutely love using the whole trailing ellipse / train of thought thing. This is because I'm a horrible english writer. Put a page of C++ code in front of me on the other hand... well, that's where I'm a viking.
